Topics
Topics for this group will be purely related to designing and developing web sites. Please leave your topic suggestions in the comments field below.
If you see a topic you are interested in, please let us know that as well.
We will eventually replace this clunky topic suggestion “system” with something more efficient.
Example topics:
- Wireframing
- Javascript libraries
- Photoshop slicing into HTML
- Server side languages (PHP, Ruby, ASP.NET C#, etc.)
- What is Twitter – just kidding
- Design theory
- CSS grid systems

Looking forward to it.

Ruby on Rails
Getting Things Done w/ respect to web design projects and interaction with clients.
All of the things you mentioned except Twitter, what is that?

Great idea! I’ll definitely show up to the meetings.
I would like to hear about what tools can be used for webdesign optimization.
Example: Using tools such as crazyegg.com to optimize a website or blog.

1. Facebook and Twitter: what’s the big deal?
2. Podcasting information

Very cool! I could learn a ton from the topics already listed. So I hope those lunches do happen. But if you’re really looking for more topics, I’d attend meetings on “metrics” or designing “websites for mobile viewing” or “building mashups of Google products for your website”.
I hope the response if good enough that these events happen.

Oh, one more… APIs. How to pull them, display, etc. That may be a bit much for a lunch. But would be interesting.

Where to look for Design Inspiration, Brainstorming techniques, Animation, Skinning for Flex Apps.
#13 by Chris Elliott on July 15th, 2009
I would like to have a discussion on branding and design and how it drives the decisions we make on which technology to employ for its delivery.
#14 by Dave Cowart on July 16th, 2009
Designing and implementing performance tweaks
#15 by Jason McCay on July 18th, 2009
Ditto on the topics already listed. While it is listed as a “lunch”, my hope would be that it would be in a format where instruction could happen, not just people chatting around a table. At RubyHam, we have adopted (for our instructional sessions) a lightning talk format, allowing people roughly 5-15 minutes to say what they want to say and be done.
It may be good to use a format like this with this group as well. Just a suggestion.

All great topics listed so far. I like Jason’s lightening talk format. How about a session just sharing useful websites for designer and developer tools i.e. http://colorschemedesigner.com/
#17 by Herve Billiet on July 20th, 2009
Great idea Jason, – this lunch talk is a good initiative
I have one more topic in mind: best practices to integrate a whole business with their website –
Example: a small engineering firm want a new website and wants their website to integrate with a new ERP system and/or CRM together with an accounting and billing software.

I’m so glad you are starting this group! Your list of suggested topics is great! It would be useful for me to learn more about using javascript libraries to add interactivity to my site designs. Another helpful topic for me would be a refresher course in utilizing Firebug to check my CSS layouts.

Someone at the Vulcan Park meeting mentioned: “How are we going to make money in this changing market?” Sounds like a great topic to me.
#20 by brit on July 24th, 2009
I agree, David. I was thinking the same thing last night. It’s definitely something that is changing in the market and we all need to know how we can evolve our skills to continue making a living. That will definitely be on the list for the next meeting topic.
