HTML5 and CSS3
Current web technologies are changing, whether we’re ready for it or not. As web designers, it’s our responsibility to stay up to date on industry changes. The first meeting of the Web Design Lunch group will focus on two of these new technologies, HTML5 and CSS3. We will discuss what’s new in HTML5 and CSS3, current browser support and the expected adoption rate. This will be an open discussion, so please bring your questions and insight.
One of the goals for this group is to facilitate sharing of knowledge amongst local web designers. Open communication is key to this and to spur this on, I would like to have different “segments” of the meeting each requiring group participation. Read the rest of this entry »
Based on the previous First Meeting Topic post results, the topic for the first meeting will be “The New Web – HTML5 and CSS3″.
In keeping with the long standing (about 2 weeks) tradition of the “wisdom of crowds” used for this group, I put up another (yes, another) poll to let you guys decide on the date for the fist meeting. My hope for this group is that it will become more of a cooperative than a presentation forum. So, in sticking with that principle, I want to let you guys pick the topic for each meeting. Some of the suggested topics are listed below. If you don’t see the topic you want to hear about at the first meeting, just post a comment about it and I’ll include it in the voting.
UPDATE: As you can see from the poll results above, it was very close, but the most popular topic is “HTML5 and CSS3″. That will be the topic for the first meeting. I will post another poll just before the first meeting where we can vote on the topic for the second meeting. “Basic Design Principles for Web” will be included in that list, so all of you gals and guys that voted for that one should be able to pull it off for the second meeting.

I would like to have our first meeting within a couple of weeks of this post, but I need to get your feedback and judge interest in the group, so please visit our Topics Page and let us know what you would like to hear about first. Anything goes! Well, let me rephrase that. Anything “web design” goes! I know how some of you are…
The meetings will probably stick to the normal 1 hour format.
